The proposed A.D. has a compliance time of 36 months which is similar to AD 2008-24-08 that also deals with specific Goodyear evacuation slides. One of the differences between the two A.D’s is the addition of the “do not install after the effective date of the A.D.” clause to the proposed A.D. There are both scheduled tasks and simple line maintenance tasks that require the removal of the slide from the door. This clause would prevent the removal and reinstallation of the slide from the door for any of these maintenance tasks.
The Boeing MPD has the following scheduled tasks that require removal of the slide from the door.
• 52-010-00-xx
• 52-812-01-xx
• 52-810-01-01 (task card view shows slide removed)
• 52-620-00-xx
• 52-650-00-xx
• 52-530-00-xx
The following tasks could potentially result in the removal of the slide from the door:
• 52-030-00-xx
• 52-050-00-xx
If a slide is attached to a door and is left undisturbed, the slide can (in theory) remain in that location for a maximum of 36 months. WestJet respectfully requests that the verbiage of the “do not install” clause be revised to allow for removal and reinstallation of the same serial number evacuation slide in the same location to support simple maintenance tasks which potentially can occur at intervals well short of 36 months.
