UPS Airlines was the first operator to discover the cracked fuel pump hood half condition. UPS continues to inspect for this condition during our A300-600 heavy maintenance visits. Airbus is currently in the certification process for an improved design of the fuel pump hood half of which is projected to be complete in late 2012. UPS requests the effective date of this AD be set after the improved fuel pump hood half is determined to be available for operators to install. Additionally, UPS requests that the initial compliance period be 36 months after the effective date to allow for purchasing and part lead time. The aforementioned requests, if implemented, will enable a one-time through the fleet solution without the need of repeat inspections.
