This is a rediculous waste of money. 6600 planes, one reported failure and one reported improper assembly.
Most of this fleet is in excess of 20 years old with no reported failures.
This should have been left as an SB with the exception of the very recent fleet related to the failure. A 10 hour compliance time on 20+ year old airframes is excessive. Next Annual or 50 hours would have been more reasonable.
The FAA continues to take exagrerated, and unreasonable actions at costs that are not justified. There used to be a level of cooperation between the aircraft owner and FAA, but not anymore. The Lycoming Crankshaft AD was yet another example of excessive action with no measurable improvement at a high price to the aircraft owners.
Many of these ADs appear to be "brokered" CYA between the FAA and aircraft manufacturers!
