I never thought I would see the day some 5 or more years ago when the FAA would allow/invite an aircraft manufacturer to self-certify compliance with ASTM Standards. I have been intimately involved with LSA since the outset and have seen, with much appall, how this procedure allowed greedy manufacturers and their representatives to flaunt the very letter and spirit of the regulation at every turn. How could the authorities have been so naive? Why has it taken so long to see that there is so little difference between the scoundrels in the aircraft industry and those in the field of used car sales?
