I fail to see what this expansion of Class B airspace gives Detroit Approach that it doesn't already have. Adding more airspace just gives the controllers more workload in an already busy airspace area. Raising the ceiling of the airspace doesn't do anything other than make it more difficult for aircraft to pass through this area for no gain in safety for those aircraft, or for the aircraft going into Detroit Metro. All this plan does it make it more difficult for any VFR traffic to go through, above, or around the airspace to anyplace close to the Detroit area (like Ann Arbor, MI or Toledo, OH). It will add another layer of requests for entry and/or flight following and additional work to control IFR traffic that the Detroit Approach doesn't currently have to worry about. How does this help exactly?
