HolidayTravelWatch has previously responded to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority CASA Consultations. Both Organisation were enquiring into issue of Aerotoxic Syndrome. HolidayTravelWatch considers that whilst ‘governmental’ departments pass the buck from one to the other, the time has come for a ‘Passenger’s Right to Know’: 1. A right for passengers to know the reasons why aircraft crew are removed to hospital following a smoke or fume event; 2. In the event of crew being exposed to fumes, that passengers are equally advised as to the health issues and offered immediate medical treatment; 3. That National Civil Aviation Authorities publish details of all enquiries carried out by them relating to any smoke or fume events; 4. That a Global (or National) register(s) of smoke or fume event complaints be created which is fully open and accessible to all Consumers; 5. That a Global (or National) body(ies) be created, possibly through ICAO or the various National Authorities, charged with the investigation of all smoke or fume event complaints compiled on the register; 6. That an independent body be created to receive and accept pilot and crew complaints into the operation and safety issues affecting aircraft, which is open to public scrutiny; 7. That a Global or National bodies create a Global or supra-National wide ‘Whistleblow’ campaign to heighten aircraft safety issues so as to encourage an environment of disclosure. The FAA should also consider the wealth of evidence and proposals within the attached reports (we consider that the attached report and subsequent response, as holding relevance to the current enquiry). We suggest that our ‘real’ Consumer evidence will aid the FAA to develop legitimate legislation for US airspace to protect the ultimate users; the Consumer and those employed in this dynamic industry.
