It’s important to note that the FAA is in the process of defining the rules for UAVs, sometimes referred to as drones. One obvious problem of drones is they span a wide range of capabilities: from the small, remote-controlled “toy” to the military-grade drones capable of flying long distances, remaining aloft for extremely long periods of time, and delivering laser guided bombs. The lack of segmentation across this very broad category is making it difficult for the FAA to make significant progress. Electric Multi-rotor UAV's have limited flight times to ~7-12 minutes. They should not to fly in controlled air space, over 400 feet vertical, and always within line-of-sight of the UAV, not exceed 55 pounds total weight. Within these parameters they should be self regulated and acceptable for commercial applications. This is a new transformative technology with extremely positive benefits to society. UAV's manned with cameras have hundreds of potential applications in media & marketing, real estate, insurance, construction, inspection, agriculture and public safety. This exemption should be granted for commercial uses. The restriction of these flight systems is an unnecessary impediment to our American society.
