The proposed change to the Nashville Class C surface area has merit. To leave the Class C airspace subject to a cutout around a now defunct airport that will never return to use is setting presidence that cannot be supported. Had the airport never been there, then the surface area would have been designed in accordance with the procedures in FAA Order 7400.2, Procedures for handling airspace Matters, and would have resulted in a 5NM radius around the primary airport. Since there is no obligation to design a cutout around an airport in the first place, but only doing so for the obvious benefit of those at the subject airport, and perhaps ATC, leaving in place for no obvious reason is fundamentally flawed policy. This is not a taking, it is compliance with Agency airspace rules, and even in the absense of quantatative data to justify a rulemaking change, sometimes common sense has to trump those that choose to hold hostage common sense and good public policy. No user receives any operational or financial detriment in the surface area returning to its default shape. What purpose would a user need to use the cutout when there is no aerodrome left to support it. This should be a technical amendment to right a wrong. I urge those that make this kind of decision, use their own common sense, and design airspace as appropriate when there is NO compelling reason to capitulate to alphabet group wishes.
