David Alexander Prince

My name is David Prince, i am 21 years old, started flying 4 years ago, and i was going to quit flying right after my private pilot check ride, because i did not love flying the way i thought, it was so strict and serious more than it had to be not at all what i thought about when i thought i was going to be a pilot. I did not look forward to going back for lessons or even to go flying which just is not right. After my check ride my examiner offered to take me up in his Aeronca Champ. I had no idea what that was but i said yes, and it altered the course of my life and flying career forever. I loved everything about it, mostly what amazed me was i just completed a so called private pilot license which cost me 14,000$ dollars and a lot of hard work, not much fun. And in 30 seconds in the champ i had fell in love with flying all over again and maybe 30 $ in fuel. And in a 1 hour flight in that Champ i learned more than the 60 hours in that PP course! And i couldn't barley fly it! YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO USE YOUR BRAIN. And FLY THE AIRPLANE. Using the basic stick and rudder skills, because you have to or else you will tear up the airplane. And it is fun, so much fun! you have to fly it from the second you start the plane to the second you shut it down. You have to understand the Wind and the flight controls. You learn how to SLIP, and land in crosswinds and taxi in crosswinds, 3 point landings , wheel landings, engine failure's over and over again, stalls, Crab Slip demonstration down the runway at 3 feet, trying not to get blown downwind of the centerline, really becoming one with the airplane, spot landings, practice going down the runway on the left main, then the right, and over and over again. FLYING! Something i feel we are getting away from these days the basic skills that really matter when all else fails. I guess what i am trying to say is if this new curriculum is instated, flying will become less safe, and poor example for the next generation of Pilots.
