While labeling seems like the answer, it seems that unscrupulous types could easily defeat such a measure by removing and relabeling items for re-sale in the US. If a product is to be destroyed why can't it be confiscated on sight and the company forced to pay a destruction fee depending on the amount of the material? It seems it is possible that bad food can go to another country and poor people in other countries would end up with poisonous or tainted food in their markets. A monetary fee or penalty would force companies to take more care in food safety issues. Also is there a way of tracking which companies are consistently bringing in bad food? It seems we should not allow such imports from entering our ports after so many violations within 2 years for example.
