will the fda protect patients and consumers or will the fda continue to shield drug companies? early drug trials that demonstrate adverse consequences often do not get relayed to future patients while drug manufacturers are allowed to sell compounds to public. Vioxx comes immediately to mind. The first and foremost goal of the FDA should be to protect the safety of the public. Meaning exactly that doctors and patients be given all of the information they need to fully weigh the risks and benefits of a drug.
