I am concerned about genetically modified salmon in our food supply. There have been no long term studies conducted on genetically modified salmon as well as the other genetically modified foods in our food supply. We have no evidence that these foods are safe for long term consumption. I cannot fathom how something like this can be approved in our food supply without thoroughly testing the safety of the product and possible effects of long term consumption of these products. More independent studies are needed to determine the safety of consuming these foods and whether or not they affect the generations to come. I am also greatly disappointed that we as consumers have no way of knowing whether or not the food we are eating has been genetically engineered. It seems deceitful that it is not on the labeling and we are not informed of what we are eating. It makes me as a consumer lose trust in the FDA because it seems in this case that the FDA's main concern is protecting corporate profits rather than the welfare of the consumer.
