I am simply writing to request that the FDA approve pumps that suspend insulin delivery when blood sugar is low for people with Diabetes.
My cousin's first child is almost two this year. He is an incredibly happy child, despite being diagnosed with Diabetes at only a year old. He did nothing to "deserve" this disease. It wasn't an issue of diet or exercise. His pancreas simply does not produce insulin, which will kill him if he does not receive the proper amount by injection. They check his blood sugar at least 8 times per day. They barely sleep and are often up with him 4 times per night as they try to prevent "Dead in Bed." They lived with my family for a month and it is clear that it is a balancing act, constantly trying to judge how much insulin will be enough.
Please, consider prompting the FDA to approve pumps that will suspend insulin delivery when blood sugar is low. It is vital for children like Zachary, who never deserved a disease like this, but who does deserve a chance to bring his cheerful attitude into a long and healthy life. Thank you.
