Susan False - Comment

I am a successful farm direct producer that has, over the last 7 years, developed a business where I sell high quality produce and finished ingredients to gourmet distributors and directly to high end restaurants. I now have 5 employees. Since the Food Safety Act has gone into place I have been raided and treated like a criminal. In response to the raid, I now have a $10,000 labratory in my office that I use to take samples on an ongoing basis, looking for choliforms and hoping that I can maintain a sterile production as that is what is now demanded. I use it basically to protect myself from the government. As a group of farmers we were told by overzealous inspectors at a meeting about a month ago, that they- the inspectors- will be back in the fall and they will "get us". My facility is basically sterile, but they are trying so hard to prove that their job is vauable , that in fact I think that they will get us. I have been actively working on a plan since that last meeting. When they "recall" my product, my plan is to close my American warehouse and move to another country. I have a global product and I can move my processing to another country and easily set myself up successfully. I will leave 5 families behind unemployeed and I will go on and be fine elsewhere. I know at least half of the farmers at that meeting are working are similar exit plans. We live in a global world, we are entrapeuners and we are learning that we dont need the United States. We are getting pushed out by overzealous beaurocrats.
