Dear Madams and Sirs:
I am a 35 year Nurse, who has worked actively in the Health Care Industry and still do. I am 58 years old. I applaud the government for thinking of the development of MORE Anti-fungal and Anti-biotic agents for a condition that is further distributed by not following basic hygiene practices by care givers. I would prefer to see more legislation in regards to better staffing and holding Health Care providers to higher standards to stop the spread of C-Diff (as we in the field call it.)
I do understand the nature of the infectants that you as a body have been so kind and diligent to address in this proposed rule. I would like to refresh your memories of the findings in the 1700's (I think) of infection spread by Doctors who were working in "dirty" places (Like the Morgue), then going to deliver infant without washing their hands. Any of you remember seeing that film in school??? Hand Washing was the reason that there was a crazy spread of infection. Pure and Simple!!
Don't the Pharmaceutical companies get enough of our money already!!! Does the government actually need to support drug development, and at what cost to the people? Are they going to put these new medications out at reduced or free costs?? I doubt it, Sirs! When are we going to look at the actual causes, and fix the "root" problem?
Please sirs, we all want our Health Care to be the BEST in the world, and over the past 20 years, it has steadily declined. Why? Staffing issues, (driven by want of profit), and a decrease in self accountability. Please, pass a law that fosters an environment of care, professionalism, and knowledge.
Sincerely,
Marla Cheezem, RN
