General comments/suggestions regarding pedestrian and bicycle policies.
Section 1A.11 Relation to Other Publications
(1) add website address for FHWA documentation - "Designing Sidewalks and
Trails..."
(2) add AASHTO reference guides for (a) ?A Guide for Achieving Flexibility in
Highway Design, May 2004; and (b) "Guide for the Planning, Design and Operation
of Pedestrian Facilities, American Association of State Highway and
Transportation Officials, 2004"
(3) reference more current US Access Board ADA Guidelines
Section 3C.02 White Lane Line Pavement Markings for Roundabouts
(1) add alternative signing/marking for a bike lane drop/add and transition to a
shared-use path around round-a-bouts - consistent with FHWA Roundabout guide.
Section 3C.07 Example Markings for Roundabouts
(1) add similar text to Figure 3C-17 to indicate qualifier for either the absence of
pedestrian facilities or rural conditions (see Figures 3C-16 and 3C-
18), or illustrate an alternative for all three figures (3C-16-18) based on an urban
setting where pedestrian facilities are noted - providing better examples which are
more consistent with FHWA policy for pedestrian and bicycle streamlining (see
http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/bikeped/bp-guid.htm).
General sections noted in attached WORD file.
