In the proposed rule, the FMCSA seeks to keep in effect until January 30, 2014, the requirement that interstate drivers subject to the commercial driver's license (CDL) regulations and the Federal physical qualification requirements must retain a paper copy of the medical examiner's certificate. This proposed change is a result of FMCSA acknowledging that many States will not have the capability to receive and make available medical certification data via the CDLIS driving record by the compliance deadline. Still, FMCSA proposes no similar change in the compliance dates for States established in the 2008 final rule.
Michigan respectfully seeks to have the compliance dates for States extended until January 2014.
