I'm A Driver for FedEx and in our long haul way, a team that uses a split Sleeper Berth is very efficient in time management. 4 or 5 on and off is not much sleep but is not much drive as well. I have done this and it does work. By the time the 4th or 5th hour comes up, you are ready to hit the sack. On the delay for loading and unloading, the off duty time that a driver WAITS to get into the dock should be off-Duty and not count to whatever total hours are available. As soon as the driver gets into the dock to load whether he is doing it or not, should be on duty not driving.. you can reduce the 11 to 10 driving, thats fine., either way.. Keep the 34 hour restart. I drive regional, I do 514 miles round trip per day. I do about 45-50 hours in a week on-duty and driving.. I am off weekends and when monday comes, I am rested AT HOME, and ready to do another weeks worth of driving and working. so the 34 hour restart is the best thing the FMCSA has done.
