In the description for Anne Ferro, it states this, "Administrator Ferro's vision is to eliminate severe crashes and fatalities involving large trucks and buses." This is a great thing to accomplish. But I have to ask, who does it serve to put rules on the trucks to avoid the crashes, when in most cases the crashes are caused by the small cars and trucks?!
What is really needed is education for the public and regulation for training for new truck drivers.
How about an ad campaign stating something like, "Have you thanked your trucker today? Because without them and the sacrifices they make, you wouldn't have anything."
If you want to reduce the time we can drive, how about compensating us with a check from the government! Yes we enjoy our jobs, but we are not mainly out here for the fun of it. We have bills to pay and in an industry where our pays haven't kept up with inflation for the past 30+ years, something needs to be given back to us!
I don't know of any other job which someone is so restricted with the hours they can work. If someone wants to put in overtime because they have a big bill to pay, no problem. But not the truckers! We're forced to take a 34 hour reset 1/2 hour from home because that's what the HOS rules say we have to do. Where is the flexibility?!?
Something you people have forgotten is we are adults! You treat us like we are children out here and enough is enough!! Stop telling us when to sleep and wake up and take a walk around. It's our lives and it's time you butt out!!!
Go after the real people responsible for the bad press we get. Get that ad campaign going I mentioned before. Start education for everybody. But people, making these damn rules all the time only serves to make us stand up and fight back!!!
And btw, ALL of you should have some 18 wheeler experience before you sit on your asses and tell us how to do our jobs. You're so out of touch and you listen to the wrong people!!
WAKE UP!!!!
