Dear Sir/Mam , I am writing this in response to our ever changing Hours of Service Rules And Regs. The simple fix would be to mandate every commercial vehicle to have an electronic onboard device linked to a central computer that a employee (driver) would be reguired to log on before starting the shift. And that all drivers would only be allowed to log on if all requirements were meet and deemed quialified to operate said vehicle.And instead of drivers being compensated by the mile,load,ect. All drivers be paid an hourly wage.If a driver is paid by the hour this would reduce stress, speed, neglegence and promote a safer more relaxed enviroment for the drivers as well as making the companies,shippers,recievers and all parties more responsible for their actions. Again all Drivers Owner Operators Would be required to log on with a valid CDl. And if anyone reguardless of who they are is cauught in violation make the consquences very stern to deter this from happening again.If you think about his Engineers on a train,Airline Pilots, Boat Captains none of these get paid by the mile or load.If a driver is to only be on duty 14 hours a day and he or she is only getting paid for 14 hours ect they are only going to work when getting paid.I see nothing but positive benifits for everyone concerned if this would happen. I know it will surely make the industry safer as well as attract people who would not feel they are working with 2nd rate citizens.The other thing it would do is to make the industry more compliant as well as help clean of some of the ones that do not need to be in this industry.There is a lot of people out there daily that is running from law enforcement and every other branch of goverment as well as drugs,warrants,child support back taxes and a long list of other things that this rule could really make a difference to help locate and bring to justice.I Hope that you will give this some serious thought.
