I'm a driver. In my opinion the current hours of service have nothing to do with safety. It,s more about the general publics perception of what they think is safe and have no idea of what goes on in the real business of the trucking industry.I,m forced to drive 11 hrs straight without a break in order to get my delivery on time.the only way I can really be safe is to lie on log book to coverup for a break if I become to sleepy or tired to drive. This brings the possibility of being caught and having huge unfair fines impossed upon me or worse getting involve in an accident and being held responsible because I lied on logbook to take abreak to be safe to myself and the public. We (drivers)spend so much wasted time at shippers and recievers that we could us toward rest credit its just wasted.I dont have any answer that big gov.will probably listen to but if you want safety we need to let the driver have more controll of his or her sleep and rest requirements.I know when I,m tired. there is no sleep study that knows this only my own body knows this.In general there is no driver out here;that has at least a coupl of years experiance, that wants to put himself or the public at risk. These are my thoughts.thank you for the opprtunity to speak my mind.Have agood day!
