The changes made to the HOS regulations were over due and a blessing to every truck driver. It made a rather complicated system of calculations, for checking hours of availability, to a very simple method. It also gave these drivers an opportunity to get the needed rest to ensure that they are alert to all weather conditions and road situations. I have been in transportation for 41 years and have owned my own Driver Log Auditing Company for the past 8 years. With the old rules, it was tedious at times to explain to a driver why they were over on their HOS. With the new system, the FMCSA has simplified the formula. 5 consecutive days @ 14 hours per day 34 hours restart rule and you are good to go again. Too much politics involved with this challenge. Seems to me that too many companies put profits ahead of safety and a quality of life for their drivers.
