The "Electronic Age" is upon us. Forcing companies to maintain inefficient paper
systems solely for the purpose of obtaining a signature in original form is
ludicrous. In our company in the US we have approximately 1000 drivers (for
round figures). The regulations then require that we maintain, monitor, and file
approximately 30,000 paper RODS on a monthly basis. These need to be then
examined and reports completed of any violations committed and finally filed for
posterity. The process is very costly and does not allow for timely intervention.
The greatest costs are occurred in hiring, training, and monitoring of administrative
staff. This hiring and training of administrative staff must be done on a frequent
basis as there is substantial turnover and personnel develop and move-on.
An electronic system allows for the RODS to be transmitted and filed
automatically in electronic format and the data analyzed to provide timely reports
to be acted on by management. All fairly ?Hands-off? with the results being up to
date, timely, and consistent.
