My school is located in Lorain County, Ohio. The nearest independant third party test site is two hour drive, one way, for students. The time alone is cumbersome, not to mention the cost of travel for the students. If students fail any portion of the test they have to wait to retake the test and incur the additional costs for travel as well as the time it takes out of their life to make the 4 hour round trip.
In essence, the students incur extra costs and time to complete this process. Most of these students are low income and unemployed. The regulations that currently exist do not properly serve those in need.
In addition, the cost incurred for them by Great Lakes Truck Driving School has been atronomical. The CDL Testing fees incurred in the past year is $50,114.00, and the year before these costs were $53,000.00.
THese are added burdens for the school and students that could be avoided by allowing schools to test their owns students.
