As an owner/operator I depend on my cell phone and laptop computer to operate my business. Finding loads, communicating with brokers, shippers and receivers are all important aspects of making my business profitable. I agree with the premise that distracted driving is not toleratable, but making the presents of devices for texting and/or emailing and web searching as evidence of distracted driving without additional proof of usage during driving is not acceptable.
Making it acceptable for trucks using Qualcomm or other such devices while limiting the usage of texting and/or laptop internet services is prejudicial and unduly limits fair trade and equal competition.
I strongly urge that all devices that promote distracted driving be controlled equally without preferential treatment.
