I am in support of the rule that FMCSA and PHMSA is amending through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) and the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) to restrict the use of hand-held mobile telephones by drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). I agree that it will reduce the rate of crashes caused by distracted drivers, deaths, and injuries caused by the usage of mobile telephones while driving. The use of a mobile telephone can prevent drivers from paying attention to their surroundings and others on the road. It can also prevent them from hearing and properly operating their vehicle. These factors place drivers at higher risk of an accident. The use of a mobile telephone while driving is a major safety hazard and should be considered. I am in support of this proposed rule.
