It is about time the scope thats's focused on safety in the transportation induistry specifically the trucking side,be broadened to include the two most contributing time-affecting factors for the drivers. The shippers and receivers,it is well known by the drivers themselves and even their companies, that shippers and receivers are the main entities that decay a drivers available time to work safely,as described by the FMSCA.
As a driver myself I can personally relate several instances where it was not uncommon for a shipper to regularly delay drivers up to four to six hours ,and the same for an equal number of receivers. It's plain to see if a driver spends more than two hours at each end of your typical five hundred mile/nine hour run that he's going to be out of legal hours to drive as soon as his load is emptied, which doesn't even leave him enough time to find a safe haven to take his DOT break let alone pick up another load.
