As a truck driver, small business owner,DOD Contractor and voter, I would like to know why the DRIVER is Not represented in these rule making dicissions. After all, we the driver are the people that are afficted by these rules. After reading all I could find on the new HOS rules, these are the problems I see. (1). The one size fits all aproach will NOT work. There are thousands of diffrent trucking opperations in America.( 2). As for my wife and myself, as DOD contractors I cannot find any excemptions for the 1/2 hour off per 8 hours driving. This puts us and the other 1850 trucks (3700 Drivers) that transport America's Secrets, Ammunition and weapons either puts us in VIOLATION of FMCSA or DOD REGULATIONS. So we get CSA points or charged with Treason! After we leave a installation one of us MUST BE ON DUTY AT ALL TIMES! According to DOD. (3). Changes to the restart. (A) As a Team opperation this restart Will Not Work! The 2 periods of 01:00-05:00 will make our truck sit a extra 12 hours. (B) To be profittable trucks will have to opperate during peak traffic hours. This WILL cause More Congestion, Accidents and FATIGUE! (4) 1 restart per 168 hours. There many times we run for 3 days, then sit for 4 days, then run for 4 days. This will force us to Sit for 2 more days to get a restart. This WILL COST our company time and money. Acording to FMCSA's own statistics our industry is the Safest it's ever been. The HOS we have now work just fine. Why Screw Them Up? The closest I can calculate your new HOS will cost us is $27000.00 per year.
