“Amtrak requests continued coverage under C.F.R. Part 238 Subpart F—Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance Requirements for Tier II Passenger Equipment under 238.503 Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) requirements; and requests that consideration to reclassify the Acela trainsets as a “Dedicated semi-permanently coupled integrated trainset” to be governed uniquely in C.F.R. Part 238- Passenger Equipment Safety Standards and remove the Power Cars from “Locomotive” or “MU locomotive” classification as stated in C.F.R. Part 229.5/238.5 Definitions and reclassified solely as “Passenger equipment” stated in C.F.R. Part 238.5- Definitions.”
