I am writing in support of the City of Burlington’s petition for Waivers of Compliance which is related to the City’s required improvements to retain its quiet zone status. (Docket #: FRA-2013-0039).
It is my understanding that the City of Burlington is working with Wisconsin Central Railroad to implement changes within our town. I recommend granting them more time to implement those changes.
I work in a building that is adjacent to the railroad tracks. I believe that the due to the amount of trains that pass through in a given day, the blowing of the horns is unneccesary. I believe that the horns should be used for emergency situations only. I was driving in town the other day and heard emergency vehicles approaching from a distance. If the train horns are blown every time they pass through town it will make it difficult for people in thier vehicles to hear the emergency vehicles and from which direction they are coming as the train horns are very loud. I hope that you take into consideration that Burlington has made many improvements to it's downtown and having a train horn blowing every half an hour will detract from our beautiful town.
Sincerely,
Carrie Vanderhoef
