I have written the Tech. Center concerning Country of Origin Labeling (COOL)on
Sept. 02,2008. My question was as follows:
Good Morning,
I am inquiring how the new labeling regulation applies to beef trim(co-mingled beef
trim from different countries). The trim is collected with in a 3-4 day period then
sold (raw) to a company for further processing. A large quantity of the meat that
the trim is produced from is imported. How does the country of origin labeling affect
this type of product?
The reply that I received was as follows:

My apologies, but there hasn't been any language (policy) in regards to COOL
labeling yet. I'll suggest the FSIS website will be the best place to look for the final
rule on COOL once it's published.
Thank you.
I would like to know how this product is to be labeled when this product leaves the
establishment as of Sept. 30.2008. I have read the final rule dated 08/28/08
Docket number FSIS-2008-0027 Vol. 73 number 168.
