I am absolutely opposed to granting interstate rights to small companies that are not under the mark of the USDA. Our company was very small when we decided to make the investment for the future of our business to come under the federal mark of USDA. We did this to allow for interstate sales and the same is available today for any company willing to make the investment. Many of the recalls and problems associated with such occur in the smaller companies that are not federally inspected. They fly so often under the radar and are not scrutinized to the same extent that the FSIS facilities are. Let's face it, not all inspection is created equal. If the small companies want to sell across state lines they need to apply and go through the same process as we have. Then and only then will they be on the same playing field.
