This proposed rule by the FSIS is duplicative in that it seeks to make more rules on raw beef product. The problem here is that most everyone in America knows not to eat raw beef and if they do eat it there is a high likelihood of getting some strain of e-coli or other bacterium. I believe that the FSIS should consider not enacting this law but instead propose a rule dealing with game meat. No legislation has been enacted by any agency with regards to Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). Chronic Wasting Disease is a disease that is transferred from game animal meat to humans through mutated prions. If the game animal has CWD before butchering nothing can make the meat safe for human consumption. People in the public do not know about this disease, nor has any agency made any rules regarding the safety of consumers in this regard. All in all I believe that FSIS should use their man power to help educate the public about this disease and enact rules to guide people that serve game meat to the public.
