Our family is Opposed to having our tree farm property listed as Critical Habitat for the Northern Spotted Owl. For starters, we have very little mature timber on our property. Most of the land is 10 to 15 year old Douglas Fir plantations. Our family is depending on the harvest of this timber to fund our retirement and the college education of our grand children. We are not wealthy people. This is all that we have to support us in our old age. We have saved and invested in this land so that we would have a "nest egg" with which to retire. We feel that we are good stewards of the land. We take good care of it. To have it "listed" would run the risk that we would be restricted in our ability to manage the land in a responsible manner. Management of forest land includes harvesting the trees--then replanting them for future generations.
