I am impressed with the legislation proposed by the Fish and Wildlife Service. The proposed legislation seems warranted and is well researched. I was surprised by the amount of specific data concerning Cirsium wrightii and its habitat that had already been gathered. The Fish and Wildlife Service seems to have a firm grasp on the unfortunate situation of this plant. I was also happy to learn that the proposed legislation encouraged other parties (other than government agencies) to contribute to data collection and voice their opinions. It seems as though this legislation really desires to represent the best interests of all parties. The only negative side of this legislation that I can see is the lengthy period of time allocated to data collection. When the topic at hand is environmental preservation, speed cannot be more emphasized. This legislation advocates one year to acquire more information and statistics before continuing. However, an untold amount of damage could be done to the species in even twelve months and worsen their current predicament. I encourage legislation with less time for data collection and more decisive measures.
