It is unfortunate that due to over reacting to the perceived need for “critical” habitat results in a paranoid action by over designating humongous portions of our base lands to such a need. Habitat for this creature should be limited to locations where the optimum needs are met, these are in most areas north facing, mixed conifer stocked slopes with grades upwards of 30%. These areas in total should be more than sufficient. I see no need to allocate thousands of acres in meadows or mesa tops with minimal habitat environment. By doing so it deprives the people full freedom of use for these accessible lands that have sustained us and the salamander for centuries. This whole proposal is another example of greed for objectives dreamed up by so called biologists that are educated, but have minimal knowledge of common sense and field experience that leads to misuse of the endangered species act. There is an old Spanish saying, “Saben mucho pero entienden menos,” it translates: “They know much but understand less.” It is also a perfect example of waste indicated by the numerous hours of work that FWS employees used in preparing such a misguided proposal. The funds used came from my taxes, find a better and more productive use for these resources. You may feel free to post as you please. Gilbert M. Sandoval, Chairman
