We participated with the group developing the Perry County Community Conservation Plan. We believe this plan will preserve our water quality and therefore preserve the habitat of the grotto sculpin. Perryville is a progressive and environmentally conservative community. The plan establishes a record of the conservation efforts our community has already performed. With our plan to educate and promote further conservation efforts, we will protect our water quality, the grotto sculpin, and its habitat. As a progressive and pro-active community, we can accomplish this without listing the grotto sculpin as threatened or endangered and also without the establishment of a critical habitat area. Also, by developing and implementing our own plan, we will help to save federal funds.
We ask that the Fish and Wildlife Service not list the grotto sculpin as threatened or endangered and not establish critical habitat on the basis of our community efforts to preserve our water quality. We hope FWS recognizes our past conservation efforts and the countless hours spent by a large number of community members developing and implementing our conservation plan.
