With respect to tourism, this fish will NOT bring any tourism to the region
affected. This is a bottom dwelling fish with fewer than three known captures
in the past 8 years. Why would removing dams, which do not affect the natural
beauty of the Alabama River they add to it and add to the regional economy. To
say this dam has had a 'negligible' economic impact is ignorance to the flood
control they provide to the people downstream of them and the recreation the
resulting lake creates. In addition, if the Claiborne Lock and Dam is removed
as the previous comment desires the tourism industry will take a substantial
reduction, with the Army Corps of Engineers no longer providing the maintenance
on the project's 11 developed areas. Finally, a single barge takes 60 semi
trucks off the road, so ask yourself 60 trucks or one barge.
