Dear Madams/ Sirs:
Very recently I had the opportunity to watch the Harlequin Butterfly in its natural habitat in my hometown in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. Also, I had the opprtunity to attend to a conference on this butterfly offered by Prof. Stewart Ramos, an enthomologist from the Biology Department, Mayaguez campus of the University of Puerto Rico.
I was amazed by the uniqueness and endangerment of this beautiful and delicate butterfly. And also by how much can be learned from its simple existence about the goelogical evolution of the Caribbean Islands itself. It was also important to learn that the Harlequin Butterfly, like many insects, deposits its eggs on a particular plant that its not very common, although it exists on other parts of the Island. Curiously, this butterfly only thrives in Quebradillas, but not in the rest of the Island, even if such plant is present.
Please, list the Harlequin Butterfly as endangered and take the appropriate steps to protect it. She certainly deserves it.
Thanks in advance for your attention.
