I read with great concern the article in the September 2 edition of the Los Angeles
Times regarding the downsizing of critical habitat of the peninsular bighorn sheep.
The species has rebounded well from the 1990's and I am very concerned that this
redesignation will be a huge setback, and maybe even spell the end of the bighorn
sheep. In addition to reduction in size, there is a "balkanization" of habitat into 3
areas, another risk factor to their survival. I actually saw bighorn sheep in the
Anza-Borrego desert--what a surprise as they are so elusive--really an experience
I won't forget! Please do not allow further stress on them from mining,
development or other forms of human enchoachment. As an endangered species,
everything should be done to assure that they continue to flourish and maintain
decent population levels.
Thank you for your attention to my comment.
