I live near the Oceano Dunes and have seen the weekend crowds with their rowdy
groups and vehicles running through anything that grows, leaving septic tanks to
drain into the dunes, allowing gasoline to spill, etc. These weekenders think there
is no tommorow for their bad behavior. Our hospitals are abused. Some say the
local economy benefits. That is an out and out lie. The statistical techniques
used to generate bogus figures to allow the desicration of the flora anad fauna are
applied capriciously, to say the least.
The vendors in the areas are big contributors to local politics and appear to get
whatever they want. What no one realizes is that they come already packed and
ready to go.
Just out regular tourist business from polite tourists bring the boost to our
economy, not the jackals who leave behind only desolation.
Something should be done about this. The best thing would be to take away the
right of anyone, except law enforcement and government agencies, to use
vehicles anywhere on our dunes and beaches.
I would suggest that these abusers drive away business. When decent people
come to our community and see the low class and inconsiderate dune buggy
crowd, they move on to Cambria, Cayucous, Morro Bay, and elsewhere on the
Central Coast of California where these goons are not allowed to spoil everything
in sight.
