One of the great benefits of living here in the beautiful High Desert is the wide open space we enjoy in and around the Barstow area. Off-highway vehicle recreation, camping and the vast expanse of desert exploration provide both local residents and visitors excellent opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of our unique location. The proposal to set aside over 16,000 acres of this land to protect a small plant is both over-reactive and over-reaching. Residents of Barstow enjoy and are even proud of our unique freedoms enjoyed by our somewhat remote location. This proposal represents an unwelcome intrusion into our High Desert community. I am humbly requesting that this proposal be seriously reconsidered and either reduced in its scope and reach or rejected in its entirety. I love my country; I love my city; and those sentiments are shared by many here in Barstow. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments. I sincerely hope the concerns expressed by myself and others are taken into consideration when making decisions regarding this particular proposal.
