We moved to Westport, WA six years ago to continue our professions and, eventually, to retire. After spending much time on the beaches along the Washington and Oregon coasts, we are very concerned about the sometimes willful, and frequently inadvertent destruction of the habitat of the local Western Snowy Plovers which live and nest among the dune grasses in the upper reaches of the beaches. Although signs clearly mark the Plovers' nesting and areas of habitat, vehicles and pedestrians continue to crush their eggs and nests. We are in favor of protecting the habitat of the Western Snowy Plovers and expanding it to the maximum possible. Not only will this increased protection help birds, but it will also help communities such as ours here in Westport, WA to attract beachcombers, charter fishermen, and other tourists who will favorably impact our economy. Please help us protect wildlife and acreage for the future. Thank you for adding the comments of our family to those of others who care as well.
