By means of this submission, the Governments of the Northwest Territories (NWT) and Nunavut are providing information on management and conservation initiatives for Peary Caribou and Dolphin-Union Caribou populations for your species status review. Our response includes specific biological information about the Peary Caribou and Dolphin-Union Caribou, factors for you to consider in making a listing determination, and information on the potential effects of climate change.
We thank you for the opportunity to provide input into your process, and hope that the USFWS has sufficient confidence in the Canadian management processes to address threats so that listing the species under your legislation is unnecessary for the protection of Canada’s northern-most caribou.
Sincerely, Drikus Gissing-Director-Wildlife Management-Nunavut and Susan Fleck-Director-Wildlife Division-Northwest Territories.
