Please, please consider that the populations of these birds in the U.S. are SEPARATE and self-sustaining from wild populations, thanks to successful efforts by breeders in the U.S. over many years. To be successful, especially with the larger species, breeders HAVE to take wonderful care of their birds or they do NOT reproduce, contrary to the rumors and accusations of "parrot mills" (an inaccurate and ridiculous phrase) by those who want to eliminate pet ownership. The wild macaw populations are in need of immediate help all over the world and should be managed totally independently and listed under the ESA. However, the isolated US populations should NOT be subject to restrictions on ownership or transfer, which would limit population/gene diversity and harm the future of these species. There may be one day when they no longer exist in the wild and the only ones left are the captive populations. Please support thoughtful, responsible breeding in the U.S. (and elsewhere) and also support conservation efforts for the wild macaws. There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding parrot breeders and pet owners - please don't believe those who have only their own interests in mind. Check out the facts! Thank you for your consideration.
