On behalf of Argentina Exotic Leather Industry, we submit our support to
reclassify
the specie Yacare Overo (Caiman Latirostris) from the ESA (U.S. Endangered
Species Act).
We are aware that U.S. buyers are interested in skins and products of Yacare
Overo, which cannot be exported to U.S. market because this specie appears on
a
list under the ESA. This has a strongly negative impact on the Argentine
companies and workers engaged in this activity.
Caiman Latirostris population in Argentina is included in CITES Appendix II, as
local companies in Santa Fe, Formosa and Corrientes have been successfully
breeding specimens in ranching farm programs, for more than a decade.
We are hopeful that the Caiman Latirostris will be reclassified from the ESA.
Sincerely,
SERGIO TRACHTER
C.I.C.U.R., Chairman
