Part 21.32 EDUCATIONAL-USE PERMITS
(b)(2) Dietary Requirements….This requirement includes providing the type, as well as the variety, of foods they are likely to naturally consume in the wild.
Providing the same variety of foods to a captive bird that it would be eating in the wild is an unrealistic expectation unless one chooses to feed roadkilled carcasses which is generally not considered a best practice. For example, we feed our Bald Eagle, Frozen Zoo Smelt, fresh caught Carp, Laboratory Rats, and day old chicken and turkey chicks but of course they would be eating a much greater variety of animals than this in the wild.
Perhaps I am interpreting the proposed regulation too strictly but adding the word “general” to the sentence “as well as the GENERAL variety, of foods they are likely to.” may prevent others from interpreting it that way as well.
