I regularly enjoy going to Mary Jo Peckham park in Katy, Texas for the trout fishing, which is stocked by Texas Parks and Wildlife during the winter months. I have seen the double-crested cormorants decimate the stocking. Typically they come right up to the stocking truck and feed as they are released and continue to feed while they are disoriented. The only chance one catching anything is on stocking day once the cormorants have feed until they can't feed any more. By the second day and third day they have wiped out most remaining trout. This is a shame that stocking is really just a feeding service for the birds. I am trying to teach my 6 year old boy the pleasures of fishing, which he has greatly enjoyed at a few of the other parks around Houston. Unfortunately Mary Jo Peckham is the closest, 1hr away, and I have had no success on Saturday when I can get my boy out to fish. These birds need to be eliminated.
Sincerly,
Paul
