Air Force has reviewed the proposed FTR case 2007-304 and provided comments. Air Force does not support the proposed change to reduce the number of days for household goods (HHG?s) storage for CONUS to CONUS relocations. Current law allows 90 days with a 90 day extension. Proposed law would reduce to 60 days with a 30 day extension. Air Force currently relocates over 3000 employees yearly and allows 90 days of storage for HHG?s. Any extensions for up to additional 90 days are scrutinized by Air Staff to insure they meet the requirements set by Air Force. Less then 2% of the employees even submit for extensions and therefore appears 90 days is suffice. Air Force maintains if the proposal to reduce the 90 days to 60 days and also authorize a 30 days extension is approved, then it will create an additional workload on approving officials to review and disapprove/approve the storage extensions. Air Force employees spend over 60 days between the time household goods are packed to the time deliver to the new residence. Most of those 60 days are spent searching for a residence, closing on a new residence, cleaning/repairing, working with moving companies to have HHG's delivered to the new residence. Currently TQSE is allowed up to 60 days ? if storage is limited to 60 days, then the employee could be out-of-pocket for expenses unless a extension is approved. Again, Air Force approves the proposed changes in FTR 2007-304 except the proposed changes to reduce the household goods storage. Any questions please let me know.
