With healthcare reform, patients are considered central to the healthcare team. However, patients are not included in the distribution and access to HIT design and their own personal EHR. By virtue of conferences leading to decision making being conducted without meaningful participation of AARP, Consumers Union, National Women's Health Network, Public Citizen, etc., the design will not reflect patient's need to easily access and edit medical records. The records must be easily transferred from provider to provider and be responsive to privacy rules selected by the patient. Allow the patient organizations to select the representatives and do not conduct meetings unless patients are participating. Thank you.
